Author Interview of Anangsha Alammyan for ‘What Did Tashi Do ?’

#AuthorInterview

@anangsha_ has delivered a strong message in her book #whatdidtashido and in her interview you’ll be shocked to know the reason that inspired her to write this book.

1. Introduce yourself for your readers.

Hello everyone. My name is Anangsha Alammyan. I am a civil engineer, currently working as an Assistant Professor at NIT Silchar. Writing is something that I have always loved, and my first pieces of fiction and poetry were published in local newspapers when I was four years old. I love writing thrillers with a twist in the end, however, of late, I have started writing pieces that bring out the dark realism in today’s society. My first book “Stolen Reflections” was a collection of poems that received rave reviews from the readers. My second book, “What did Tashi do?” is a cybercrime thriller that takes the reader into the mind of a woman suffering from anonymous threats from a stranger on the internet. As you can guess, I like writing so much only because I love reading. I have been a bookworm for as long back as I can remember, with fantasy being my favourite genre. I read while I’m eating, working and even working out (thank the gods for audiobooks)! In fact, if you look at my reading list now, you’ll find I’m halfway through at least four books, and yet, I can’t resist the temptation of picking up a fifth.

2.What is the first book that made you cry ?

It has to be Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. There was a chapter called “The Phoenix Lament” where [SPOILERS] Dumbledore is pushed off the roof of one of the Hogwarts towers and he falls to his death. There is a scene where Harry looks at Dumbledore’s broken and bent body, and in an instant, all the instances of how Dumbledore helped him over the years flashes in front of his eyes, and how, he realizes with a sinking feeling, that no matter how great the need, Dumbledore will never be there for him again. I was 12 years old when I read it, and I had to keep the book down and cry my eyes out for at least fifteen minutes before I could pick it up and continue with the story.

3.How did you feel when your book was ready to be published ?

I was a bundle of nerves. On one hand, I was excited that something that I had worked on for so long was finally polished enough for it to see the light of the world. On the other, however, I was terrified by the fact that people out here would read my words. What if they didn’t like the book? What if they thought it was a waste of time? I couldn’t sleep for three straight nights before the first reviews started pouring in, and I remember thanking the heavens that they were positive.

4.How difficult was it to pen down such a gruesome tale ?

It was gut-wrenching. During some scenes, I had to pause, take a breath, and think carefully whether it was necessary to make my protagonist go through so much. Some scenes in the book are based on my personal experiences; I had tears rolling down my cheeks while I was penning them.

5.What inspired you to write this book ?

I was sitting in a café in Shillong when a group of young women walked in. They were beautifully dressed and started clicking pictures the instant they settled in. I overheard a group of men nearby talking about them. One of them was saying that he would search for the location of this café on Instagram and look at the latest posts that were tagged in this place. And, to my surprise, he was able to find the identities and personal profiles of three of the women who had just walked in. Within a few seconds, this stranger could stare at every picture these women had ever uploaded on Instagram. This incident made me realize just how much of our personal information we were sharing online, and how the presence of social media was hampering our right to privacy. I knew that I had to write something on it to make the world (especially women) cautious about what information they share online.

6. What was the hardest scene to write in your book ?

[Spoilers if you haven’t read the book] There is a scene when the blackmailer pushes Tashi too much and she breaks. She loses it and gives up. She walks to her balcony and looks at the concrete below, contemplating how easy it would be for her to give up and leave everything to the gods. It was difficult for me to pen down the thoughts of a person about to commit suicide without making it sound like a cliché. It was a real challenge to bring out the pathos and pain in Tashi’s heart.

7. How has been your journey as an author ?

For my first book, I was desperately looking for publishers, believing that if I had a big name backing me, my book would reach a wider audience. For my second book, however, I realized that everything is a gamble in the publishing industry and a publisher with a bigger clout doesn’t guarantee success. Now, I am more confident about publishing on Amazon KDP with the belief that if your work is good, people would read your book irrespective of who the publisher is. The downside is that KDP allows only eBooks to be published in India. That being said, I am happy to let you know that an independent publishing house contacted me for the exclusive rights to publish the paperbacks of “What did Tashi do?” and distribute them in bookstores. I am making changes and additions to the manuscript as we speak, and very soon, we will have a new and improved version of “What did Tashi do?” available in paperback format all over the world.

8. Any message that you want to share with your readers ?

Thank you for being a part of this journey, for reading my work and being with me all along the way. It is because of people like you that writers in our country are encouraged to pursue their dreams. Keep reading, and keep being awesome. Everything I have achieved is because of you. I love you!

Stalking is a punishable offence in our country, yet movies and songs have romanticized stalking to such an extent where the ultimate message delivered is ‘stalking your love interest on social media, places of regular visit, neighborhood, office, college will eventually lead her to fall in love with you, sleep with you and elope with you if her family is against the relationship.’ Absolute blockbuster performance! Movies and social media have far more impact on the mind of people than we can think!

Tashi Chotten was leading a peaceful life with her mother until one day when she received an email from an unknown sender. One look at the attached files and she could feel her whole life crashing into million pieces. In front of her lay the digital images of her naked self, pouting seductively, in possession of some psychotic stranger who was all set to control her life and blackmail her day in and day out.He stalked her everywhere and to such an extent that she didn’t even feel safe in her own house. Who could be this stranger? Did she know him? Most importantly, how on earth did he get those pictures.

Reading what emotional turmoil Tashi went through would send shivers in your whole body and the way @anangsha_ has narrated it will break your heart to see a fellow human suffering such abuse by another human.Tbh, this made me think ‘are we really humans’? What sadistic pleasure does a man get from posing as a torch bearer of morality and torturing another human? Another issue addressed by the Author is how people take it on their ego on breaking up of a relationship and harm their ex-partners. The language used, the narration, the beautiful portrayal of support by family and friends, the total cooperation of Police and Cyber Cell to help Tashi and how Tashi rose above her trauma and finally led a beautiful life made the book a memorable one.

It was beautiful how @anangsha_ delivered the message that no matter what your family is going to support you, your true friends will add to your strength and more than anything you should always have confidence and fight for your own justice.

The Involution

Book – The Involution
Author- Vijayalatha Narayanan
Publisher – Notion Press

21 year-old Adi has been constantly dealing with adverse health conditions for more than five years now which couldn’t even be diagnosed by the doctors. But what’s more unsettling is the mysterious things happening with him. Even with such adversity in his life Adi joined college and was lucky enough to have a group of friends who he could trust and who didn’t even judge him. With time he started experiencing even more strange happenings. He became confused and was about to flip when a shape shifter came to his rescue. This new rescuer of his started explaining him all the strange and mysterious things happening with and around him and everything made sense.
Adi was gifted, gifted with senses to see and feel more than what is visible to human eye, to travel to different places leaving his body back at home, to see future, to feel the pain of others and rescue them from their misery. He has the power to travel to different dimensions, to listen to the spirits and control his senses. Adi was born with a potential to experience and do great things, to travel in space, to past, present and future.
This was indeed a thrilling read for me, although at some instances I felt bored, but it was overall a fantastic read. It was priceless how Adi’s mother, sister and friends trusted him without an ounce of judgment or thinking of him as a lunatic. What was even better was even after realizing that he has such powers, Adi never misused them or used them to harm anyone, he always tried to learn more, help more and understand everyone more.
The writing style was lucid and the narration was gripping. The characters were well formed and it felt so good connecting to them while reading, everyone was so great and that made the story even better.
Writing a fantasy with such intrinsic details is no less than building a whole new world. The research the Author has put in to write this book and form this magical and mysterious world is very clearly evident from the way she uses the descriptions for colours, shapes relating it to mythology, various Sanskrit texts, science and logic.

“The day he saw her in an army uniform, his heart swelled with pride and tears rolled down his cheeks. “You are better than a son,” he said. She wept too. ‘Son’ was still the standard!”
.
.
“You know her as a mother, daughter, sister, wife, daughter-in-law.
But seldom as a woman.
And maybe never as a human.”
.
.
.
Such is her life is a collection of heart-breaking, gut wrenching musings overflowing with the tales of hurt, deceit, hatred, ignorance, comparison, shaming, abuse faced by women.
I’m not at all saying that ‘just’ women face these kind of adversities, any and every human can be a victim to such cruelty and abuse, but women as a more vulnerable group are subjected to a majority of abuse and hatred of various kinds.
And this book is such collection of musings which reflects the day to day hurt experienced by our mothers, daughters, wives, daughter-in-laws, sisters more because they are born as women.
This was definitely an emotional read, picking up instances from everyday life, some of which aren’t even noticeable because most of the women have ‘gotten used to it.’

Truth and Dare – The Modi Dynamic is well-researched and well-written book by Sanju Verma. All the policies and steps taken by the Honourable 14th Prime Minister of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi has been elaborately researched and exhaustively penned down by the Author.

This writing style is lucid and the narration engaging. The language used is simple but the technical terms used might be difficult for few people who aren’t interested or have little or no idea about politics and current affairs. Overall it was an enlightening read.

Human emotions and motives can be really dangerous if not handled carefully. What lies beneath a person and what he shows might be way different from each other even though we claim to know the person really well. Humans are indeed the most complex creatures.

Cynthia met Sam when she resumed her practice after settling down the mess in her own life. At that time Sam was yet to accept the loss of his only child William and his wife Marisa who unfortunately died in a car accident. Cynthia continued her sessions with Sam to help him accept and overcome his loss while trying hard to rejuvenate her relationship with her teenage daughter Lily. Things start progressing for Cynthia both with Sam and Lily, secrets were shared and new relationships were built and before you can realize you will reach the ending which will leave you flabbergasted.

The book has been written in a very lucid manner and will keep you hooked till you reach the end and then push you off the edge just on the last chapter. With mindblowing narration what I loved about the book was how gently every issue, scene and character were crafted, everything was so polished and the plot was realistic. Thrilling to the core with mystery woven pages issues like marital abuse, child abuse, mental health were very tastefully handled.

The characters were real beauty who carried the essence of the whole plot flawlessly. Cynthia’s persistence with both her client Sam and her daughter Lily was awe-worthy, her constant effort to gain their trust, to make them share their deepest feelings with her, to help them get back to their normal self and lead a peaceful life was laudable.

Overall it was an amusing read for me and I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.

Prisoner of Yakutsk

Book- Prisoner of Yakutsk

Author- Shreyas Bhave

Pages- 326

Subash Chandra Bose, the name still manages to gush in a feeling of patriotism into the soul. But the alleged reason for his death is still unacceptable and is surrounded by the air of mystery. His life story is filled with struggles to achieve independence for his country, but his death story is filled with various theories and none of them with a definite conclusion or for a matter of fact, a conclusive proof which would be acceptable by his family members and his admirers.

The Author has definitely done his research and it is evident from the grip he has on the facts, successfully blending it with his imagination and ultimately giving life to an utterly thrilling historical fiction. The facts and theories mentioned in the beginning and the newspaper cuttings every now and then makes it more attractive and corroborates the line of his fictional plot. Hats off to the precision and mastery with which the story has been built and the biggest advantage being the undilution of the original facts. The language used and the narration was beautiful and the thrill remains constant.

The story line is clear from the plot and talking more about it would just giveaway the entire story, so go grab your copy now !

“After all, even I carry my father’s blood or should I say Ravana’s lineage! Begin the chants of Brahmastra.’
.

.

The story begins with a hall full of students, professors, delegates, scientists, senior military and other influential people all eager to witness Dr.Vyas, a Nobel laureate in Physics’ lecture on ‘The Future Of Weaponry’, and soon jumps off to another story of a young man named Shankar who while trying to take control of his mediocre and not-so-happening life gets a call to visit his hometown where his father was breathing his last. Things start getting wild when Shankar’s grandfather starts narrating Indrajit’s story, a story about the Trinity’s Divyastras. The stories of Dr.Vyas, Shankar and Indrajit ultimately merge together and forms a tale so unfathomable and intriguing that you wont be ableto put down the book until you reach the end. This book is absolutely thrilling and so smoothly blends mythology, making it all quite realistic.

What I really enjoyed was how the mystery unfolded and Dr. Vyas’ lecture. I did not like Shankar’s character at all. I felt he was too high headed to acknowledge what and how much his parents did for him. When Shankar’s grandfather starts telling him Indrajit’s story, certain part seemed quite unnecessary and didn’t relate to the story as whole.

The writing style and narration was good but takes some time to pick up the pace with three stories running on their own. After a considerable amount of time the names of the characters kind of made it a little predictable as to where the story might lead. A little proofreading is needed. The characters were well formed. I really liked the plot and it was indeed a good read for me.

The story begins with Kanhai waking up half-dead, fatigued and surrounded by the dead bodies of his martyred brother soldiers of the second world war. The story further proceeds with Kanhai falling in and losing his love, returning to his village, starting and building his life afresh. This is a story of family, relationship, emotions, love, loss, tragedy, turmoil, separation and faith spread over three generations.

✍️ Talking about the plot, it’s very clear from the blurb itself, but the part where Kanhai returns to his village and his marriage with Noor felt somewhat like the movie Gadaar-Ek Prem Katha. And I was a little bored.
✍️ The characters were well formed and did justice to the story.
✍️ The language, writing style and narration was really good.
✍️ The pace of the book was okay.
✍️ The cover of the book was good, but the font size was really small and hurt my eyes.
✍️ Overall it was a good read.

AUTHOR’S INTERVIEW ~ T. SATHISH

~AUTHOR’S INTERVIEW~

Let’s know our dear Author T. Sathish a little better.

1. Describe yourself for your readers.

Sathish: I am a typical fun loving person, but can be quite introspective from time to time. Those are the times I tend to be introverted. Otherwise, I am always ready for a chat. I am an avid reader and a big cricket and tennis fan. I love to discuss eclectic topics and its impact on our regular life.

2. How has been your journey as a writer, i.e., while writing the book, finding a publisher and now after it has been published ?

Sathish: The journey has been excellent so far. While writing the book, it was a closed affair, where I spent most the time with myself, thinking and researching. Once I started the hunt for publishers, I had to get out and interact with various editors and related folks. After publishing, the external interaction has grown exponentially. I had to get on various social media to promote the book. I had to get in touch with Bookstagrammers to get their feedback on the book. I think I made many more acquaintances in this short period that I have ever made in my life!

3. What/Who inspired you to write this book ?

Sathish: Cricket as a sport has been my big passion. I write cricket columns on a website named http://www.worldinsport.com. I used to have my own blog as well. Writing about Cricket has always been a part of my life. Additionally, it struck me when I was reading a Sherlock Holmes story that I should also pen a fiction story. I wanted to be like Watson, writing about my passionate friend, Cricket.

4.How has your life changed after being an Author ?

Sathish: Life hasn’t changed much, to be honest. Writing and publishing the book has given me confidence that I can be a writer as well. So, it has shown me an additional path in my life to pursue.

5. What was the first thing you did with your royalty money ?

Sathish: It is such a tiny amount that I cried looking at it!!

6.How do you react when you get a bad review ?

Sathish: I do not believe that there is a bad book. As long as the book has no grammar or spelling errors, I consider every book as good. If someone gives a bad review because my book is poorly produced with typos and grammatical issues, then I will be upset. A writer should not publish a book without proper editing.
However, if the review is bad because the story did not jive with the reader or the characters did not gel well with him/her, I take it as part of the job. It is just an opinion of an individual.
I got some nasty reviews for my book Life in the Sunshine as well. But, I took it in the spirit of someone voicing their opinion.

7. And the last question, do you ever Google yourself ?

Sathish: Plenty of times!

I had loads of fun while reading the book and interacting with T. Sathish Thank you so much for sparing some time out of your busy schedule for this amusing interview. ❤️
